Back & Bold: Lauren Wears 3 Pairs of Glasses and Shares Amazing Artwork

image

What makes me happier than meeting a talented artist who owns 3+ pairs of glasses?  Uhm.. meeting a talented artist who own 3+ pairs of glasses and is cool as shit.  Meet Lauren, a painter whose work fuses pretty animals with an urban edge (zebras with gold caps, monkeys that DJ, a cute polar bear cutting lines?!?!)  It’s enough to make animal-lovers get in a fuss while stylish urbanites enjoy her technique.  Moreover, she’s crazy cool as we got silly shots of her modeling like she’s in a hair commercial and then more serious ones of her focusing on what she does best.  Kanye or Snoop Lion: you need to be buying up Lauren’s artwork!!  xoSK

How do you look different while wearing glasses?  I feel sassy in my glasses.  When I change my glasses, I feel like I change who I am, like I’m undercover.

image

Describe your first pair of glasses.  How old were you?  How did you feel about them?  My first pair of glasses were a light purple metal frame.  I got them in the 9th grade while attending an all-girls’ school so I was in a girly phase— hence, lavender glasses!!

image

Did any bullies ever tease you in school?  Never.  People tend to like the unique designs and colors of my glasses.

image

How do glasses accentuate beauty?  Glasses can really accentuate eye color and the shape of the face by playing with proportions but mostly I think a great pair can give someone confidence and attitude.

image

Have you ever broken your frames?  What ended up happening?  I scratched my Valentino’s and had a mini heart attack.  I ended up having new lenses custom-made and color matched… it cost me a small fortune.

image

What is the most you are willing to spend on frames?  I’ve spent close to a grand on Rx glasses but I also buy the best I can find and keep them forever.  I don’t buy them often but I take excellent care of the ones I have.

image

If someone made a movie about me, the title would be:  Fired Up—  The Disjointed Adventures of a City Girl

image

Should a man pay for the first date?  I think a man should pay for the first but a woman should always offer.  That said, if the man pays for the meal or main event, the woman should treat for dessert or the next event.

image

If the average human life was 30 years, I would live my life differently by:  Adventuring!  I would own less, travel more, take more risks, be more open with my heart and sleep far less.

image

My piece of advice to a newborn:  Do what makes you happy and screw what anyone else says.  That means, smile everyday!  And love openly.

image

One thing I have always wanted to do is:  swim with sharks in the crater in the ocean.

image

My spirit animal would be:  the Zebra.

One thing I would do if nobody would judge me is:  let my physical appearance be more artistic— tattoos, crazy hair color, dress insane.

Thanks Lauren, for being a free spirit and sharing all those pretty spectacles with us!! xo

The Perfection of Ray, His Art and those Gucci Glasses

image

When you see Ray, he looks like your typical Asian guy.  But when he’s in the mood, he can speak like President Obama.  Yup, heads will turn.  Most people won’t believe it.  But it’s true.  When I found this out, I kept pushing him to book voice-over jobs, and for him to give me an agency fee (haha)  But Ray never jumped into that right away.  Ray took his time and practiced the voice.  He practiced and practiced it many times a day.  That’s what I admire about Ray.  The guy’s got discipline, control, and is completely focused on perfecting his art, whether he’s writing, producing a shoot, or imitating Obama.  Ray is all about the detail and he’s great at it.  So it was serendipitous that all of the elements fell into place during our shoot:  the overcast sky lighting, the dressed location, even the color of his wardrobe fit the overall look (I don’t think he did that on purpose..)  Let’s not forget:  Ray’s wearing the PERFECT Gucci frames that fit his face PERFECTLY.  Ahh… perfection!   xoSK

How do you look different while wearing your glasses?  With them on, I’d say I blend in - black rimmed glasses are a dime a dozen.  Without them, I can barely see… so I’d say I look better without them. jk

Describe your first pair of glasses?  How old were you?  I’ve had glasses before I’ve had memories.  But from pictures, the frames were bronze, square’ish, and covered half my face.  Too sexy.

imageDid any bullies in school call you “four eyes”?  Any other names?  What did you do to them?  Sure - got four eyes once in a while, but most of the names had to do with my Asian ethnicity.  I was once called “chink wing wang” behind my back, and ended up bum rushing the kid and punching him in the face.  To be honest, I was aiming for his shoulder, but he ducked.  Did I mention he was one of my best friends, and wore braces at the time.
image

How do eyeglasses accentuate beauty?   Hmmmm… because people look smarter with them on… and that’s so beauty.

image

Have you ever broken your frames?  What ended up happening?  I was such a brat as a kid - as a form of protest against my parents, I would stomp on my own glasses.  Don’t ask me how that would help anything… but it was my way of exerting some sort of control.  Idiot.

image

What is the most you are willing to spend on frames?  $95. Warby Parker.

If someone made a movie about my life, the title would be:  You Think Too Damn Much.
image

Do you think the man should pay for the first date, in this modern day and age?  Why or why not?  Yes.  If he asked for the date, he should pay.  She’s paying with her time, which is much more valuable.

If the average human life was 30 years, I would live my life differently by:  I would have stopped living in fear and gone to therapy sooner.
image

If I could offer a newborn 1 piece of advice, it would be:  The idea of failure is an illusion.  Failure is an opportunity for experience and wisdom.  Be kind to yourself and just do it.

image

One thing I have not done that I always wanted to do is:  Give generously.
image

Would you rather lose all of your old memories or not have the ability to form new ones?  This question sucks.  But I’d rather lose my old memories, because the past is the past, we only have the present, and if it really does become a problem… between family, friends, and fb… I think I’ve got my past covered.
image

To you, what is the difference between being fully alive and truly living?  The most alive and free I have felt is to have a mind and heart that work in harmony.

Thank you Ray for a perfect shoot!  See you all next Tuesday for another Spectacular Feature :-)   Have a great week!!  xo
