Meet the Female Richard Branson, Wearing Some Cool Ray-Bans Glasses

Fashionistas, listen up:  You are gonna want to meet Sarah!  She is young, inspiring and living her dream.  She runs Simply Stylist, a company that connects consumers with brands, stylists and designers in the fashion industry.  This is not restricted to LA… Sarah runs these fabulous events in all major cities around the US (her next event is in Chicago, check it out here.)  She did not pay me to say this, I truly believe in her vision and admire her tenacity as an entrepreneur.  When we took these photos, she mentioned that she’s not like fashion bloggers because she’s too busy behind the scenes… but I beg to differ.  Sarah looks BEAUTIFUL in these Ray-Bans frames, she’s a natural!  xoSK

Name:  Sarah

Age:  30

Designer/Color of your Eyeglasses:  Ray-Bans (Black) and Oakley sunglasses (Brown)

Hometown:  York, PA

Current LA City of Residence:  Hollywood

Occupation:  Entrepreneur

Aspiration:  Richard Branson - as a female version

How do you look different when wearing your glasses?  I feel incognito with my shades on.

Describe your first pair of glasses.  How old were you?  I was in high school and loved my big sunnies!

How do glasses accentuate beauty?  I think glasses give an air of sophistication and intelligence.

Have you ever broken your frames?  What happened?  ALL THE TIME!  And it’s always the expensive ones… but I keep buying more :-)

What is the most you are willing to spend on frames?  $200

My totem animal is the  The Turtle - hard shell on the outside but a softie on the inside.

A famous actor I would love to date is Josh Duhamel because he is such a hottie!  (Don’t tell the hubby!)

One thing I have not done that I always wanted to do is:  Go to Asia.

Do you push the elevator button more than once?  Yes.  I am a bit impatient at times :-)

To you, what is the difference between being fully alive and only living?  Living each moment and not thinking of “would haves” and negativity.

Would you rather lose all of your old memories or not have the ability to form new ones?  This is a tough one!  I will have to go with losing old memories… I forget a lot anyway.

What is the best way to ask for someone’s hand in marriage?  Like my husband did!  On a horse and carriage ride in Old Town Prague.

Any comments or self insights or quirks you want to add?  “So what?  What’s next?”  That’s my new life mantra, and I learned that from my dad.

Thanks Sarah!  Don’t forget to sign up for her Chicago event here!  And I’ll see you here same time, next Tuesday!  Have a spectacular week :-)

Hangin’ with the Local Transplant, Aimee Rancer!

I’m sooo excited for you all to meet Aimee!  She is a fabulous fashion blogger with a keen sense of style… and of course, she loves glasses!  We met a month ago and hit it off immediately.  With 430 miles in between us, ain’t nothing going to stop us from collaborating.  In fact, I will post a special San Fran issue starring her, because I can’t wait to shoot her photos!  (All of the photos below belong to Aimee.)  Aimee is thoughtful, stylish, smart and she runs a fun blog at http://thelocaltransplant.com (be sure to subscribe!)  Enjoy and make sure to follow her on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook too!   xoSK

Hope all is well and of course, spectacular! My name is Aimee and I’m a fashion and style blogger based out of San Francisco. I was lucky enough to have my lovely fellow blogger Stacey ask me to contribute to her amazing site focusing around one of my favorite subjects, so here I am!

So first, a little bit about me. Like I mentioned, I live in San Francisco by way of Ohio and work in High-Tech PR. I have a fondness for morning blend coffee, fried cheese and an extreme love for French Bulldogs. Seriously, I can’t help but yelp every time I see one!

Anyway, I’ve been living in San Francisco for almost two years and can’t imagine my life anywhere else. While the move was difficult and leaving friends and family was challenging, I believe it’s allowed me to grow in ways I couldn’t even begin to explain.

As we grow throughout the years, we not only transform internally, but externally as well. So while I continue to work on being the best Aimee I can be, I’ve also seen various changes in my style and fashion sense since I’ve been in SF.

Here’s where the glasses shtick comes in, ya’ll. I LOVE glasses and have been wearing them for as long as I can remember. First, I need to thank Ben Franklin for inventing these great contraptions. Second, I need to thank my parents for letting me know my eyesight is horrendous and forcing me to wear them.

I’ve had athletic glasses, trendy glasses, bedazzled glasses and fashion glasses. Small, large, round, square – you name it, I’ve probably had them. I even had a brief stint in high school where I wore glasses during my field hockey games.  Yes, they came off once and yes, I did look like a complete fool when I tried to find them in the grass.

I love the convenience of glasses as I’m sure most do. I love putting them on, going out the door and beginning my day in ten seconds flat. I’ve tried my hand at contacts and just never got into the groove. But most importantly, I love the individuality glasses give my face and total personality.

The edge my frames give me is second to none. I could be wearing the simplest outfit and once I put on my signature Warby’s (Warby Parker’s Huxley, to be exact) I feel hip, chic and even better—beautiful. I have a personal style blog The Local Transplant that chronicles my day-to-day happenings, silliness and outfits! I couldn’t imagine blogging every day, seeing pictures of myself sans glasses –just seems kind of unnatural.

A lot of strangers ask to try on my glasses (a pet peeve of mine as I’m sure is the majority of optical wearers) or even if they’re real. This happens quite often, actually. Just recently, I went to a wedding where I rocked my pair and during the reception, had several people inquire about them, wanting to try them on. If you’re lucky, I let you try them on but more often than not, I laugh, smile, and polite decline relishing the fact that they’re that curious in these plastic little frames that I so covet.

Aimee Rancer is a San Francisco transplant who appreciates the worth of a good smile, a cup of Morning Blend, and a French Bulldog. Read her personal-style blog atthelocaltransplant.com.

Happy Days are Here Again

image

Los Feliz means “Happy” in Spanish.  And spending a Sunday afternoon with Tim in the Los Feliz neighborhood of LA, we witnessed a lot of happy people strolling along with their dogs and SOs.  Tim and I started off with coffee at a Greek cafe (love when coffee steams up the lenses… see more on that later!) to walking along Vermont shopping for clothes.  We didn’t get anything :)  Tim wears sturdy Lucky frames.  And how fitting:  the lucky guy couldn’t be happier as he was recently engaged to his long-time girlfriend.  Congratulations Tim!!

Name:  Tim

Age:  25

Designer/Color of your Glasses:  Lucky;  Black

Hometown:  Baltimore, MD

Current LA City of Residence:  Valley Village

Occupation:  Staff Coordinator

Aspiration:  General Manager of a Baseball Team

How do you think you look different with your glasses on or off?  I look younger with them off;  I think I look cooler with them on.

Describe your first pair of glasses.  How old were you?  This is my first pair!  I was 24 when I got them.

image

Did any bullies call you “four-eyes” or other names?  What did you do to them?  Not with my glasses, just with my height.  I made them laugh so they left me alone.

How do glasses accentuate beauty?  They add a little “flare.”  Flare is good, right?

What is the most you are willing to spend on glasses?  Who knows, maybe $100.

If someone made a movie about my life, it would be titled:  “Certainly the Loudest Movie You’ve Ever Seen”

image

The book that made me cry is OF MICE AND MEN.  Why?  Seriously.  Read the end.  I cried because I’m human.

An actor I would love to date is:  Michael J. Fox.  Why:  Bromance.  No actress compares.

image

Do you think a man should pay for the first date in this modern day?  Yes.  Because a man should.

One thing I have not done that I always wanted to do is:  Go to space.

One thing I have done that I wish I hadn’t is:  eat the second piece of cake.  Always regret the second piece of cake.

image

Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 20 years if it meant you would be wealthy and a guarantee that all of your dreams would come to fruition?  Nope.  It’s best not to get everything you ask for.

Next week:  we have a very special guest post from fashion blogger Aimee Rancer.  She wrote and took the photos herself.  I can’t wait for you to meet her. Aimee rocks!  Her glasses rock!  Start following her at www.thelocaltransplant.com now!
