The Root of Danielle’s Obsessions…

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we sit down with Danielle to discuss her loves (ahem, obsessions) that are The Sound of Music, Dawson’s Creek and Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio (especially in Titanic.)  You would think these are clear signs of a crazy person, but Danielle is a sweet, stylish, well-rounded person with a wicked sense of humor.  Just check out her humorous rants here.   When I heard the recent news that Leonard DiCaprio is taking a break from movie making, I immediately contacted her to ask if she was all right (she is, phew!)  Keep reading, you will drop belly laughs at her candid answers below.   xoSK

Name:  Danielle

Age:  27

Designer/Color of your eyeglasses:  Oliver Peoples - black

Hometown:  Leominster, MA

Current LA City of Residence:  West Hollywood

Occupation:  Assistant

Aspiration:  TV Writer

How do you think you look the same (or different) with/without your glasses?  My mom used to have similar glasses to mine when she was younger, so I think I’m channeling her when I wear them.  We look alike regardless, but I especially see the similarities in photos when we’re both four-eyed.

How do eyeglasses accentuate beauty?  I think they have the potential of being a very chic accessory.

How do eyeglasses accentuate YOUR beauty?  I used to compare wearing my glasses in public to when Tyra Banks did that social experiment when she wore a fat suit in the world to see how she was treated differently.  But now I have frames that I like so they’re no longer my fat suit experiment, just a retro alternative to contacts.

Is it true that guys don’t like girls who wear glasses?  That’s an urban legend, right?

Are you upset that Leonardo DiCaprio is retiring from making movies?
You know, FUNNILY ENOUGH, I’ve been getting asked this question a lot in the aftermath of this bomb that he’s dropped on the universe. I’ve come to peace with it. 21st Century Leo needs to recalibrate himself to be more like 90’s Leo. I’m talking more tweets re: stories from the set of Titanic and not as much focus on “saving the tigers” and “fighting against the injustice put upon sharks slain to make shark fin soup in Thailand”. I hope he takes a long break, invents a time machine, and comes back as Leo ‘97.
Why do you love Titanic?  Titanic came out when I was twelve, which is the OPTIMUM teeny bopper moment. I read about this woman who, when The Sound of Music was first released, she would go watch it at the theater every day and wound up seeing it like 150 times. I would have done that if I hadn’t been twelve. If The Sound of Music was the gateway drug, Titanic is like movie heroin.

What do you want to say to Leo?  I’ve built up such an arsenal of trivia about him over the years, there’s nothing I can think of to say to him that wouldn’t terrify him/put me on some sort of watch list. SO, if I ever find myself face to face with him, and I’ve thought of this, I’d probably try to tone it down as much as possible and be blase about it and say something  like, “I really love your work” only because “In 1997 you looked like a literal angel cobbled together by gold flakes and sunshine” might not come off as the frank compliment I mean it to be.

How is the world a better place because of Jack and Rose?  I can’t speak for the entire world, but I know MY world is a better place because of Jack and Rose because I just love them unconditionally and forever. Like, if I ever get married (a possibility that I may have shot myself in the foot about here having answered these questions this way, but it is what it is) my biggest hope for a lifetime of happiness is that I love that hypothetical husband as much as I love Titanic!

Why do you love Dawson’s Creek so much?  Dawson’s Creek was very zeitgeisty when it came out, which was a few months after Titanic. So all of those Bop magazines that I had because of Leonardo DiCaprio suddenly started featuring Joshua Jackson, my other true love. I was all, “This guy was Charlie in The Mighty Ducks, I LOVE him!” so yeah. It was perfect timing, premiering as I was still on my Titanic high. I mean, it’s a show centered around attractive teens who are in love with each other in a new way EVERY SINGLE WEEK! Dawson’s Creek is a little mini weekly Titanic fix.

How would the world be different without Dawson’s Creek?  There would be a deficit in opportunities for 90’s middle schoolers to establish very unrealistic expectations for their high school careers and beyond. Also, if we’re making this about me, then maybe I wouldn’t be in love with television and would be one of those people who says “Oh, yeah, I don’t watch much TV” and those people are insufferable.

Why do you love The Sound of Music?   Because it was my first real obsession,  I like to think of it as my gateway drug, like, this is why I’m like this.

How would the world be different without The Sound of Music?  There would probably be more wars because people would have one fewer source of sheer joy and exuberance and triumph than they already do as it is.

How is the world a better place because of The Sound of Music? The Sound of Music is a cinematic anti-depressant. There’s no way to finish it and NOT be even the littlest bit more uplifted than you were when you started watching it three hours prior. In high school, one of my best friends had never seen the end of The Sound of Music so I told him that the Von Trapps were discovered by the Nazis in the convent then lined up and executed a la the Romanovs, which could have very well happened if it weren’t for those quick thinking nuns with their mechanic skills!

How old would you be if you didn’t know your age?  I genuinely forget that I’m not 22 sometimes.  It’s like time stopped when I graduated from college.

One thing I have not done that I always wanted to do is:  see Celine Dion’s majestic Vegas concert in her coliseum.

Any other personal insights or comments you want to share with the world:  I established all of my current main interests in 1998.
